We have been interested in visiting Turkey for many years, but could never get insurance for Turkey beyond the Bosphorus - the Asian part. On renewing our insurance this year we found that the whole of Turkey is covered - so here we are.
We have been here 6 weeks (9th Oct 08) and have enjoyed it immensely. Above all is the friendliness, helpfulness and resourcefulness of the Turks we have met. Even people walking past our wild camping spots have given us a cheerful wave. The countryside is dramatic and beautiful. Istanbul has overtaken Oslo as my favourire city. We arrived with some trepidation, we leave as Turkey fanatics.
Our progress has not been helped by Nationwide Building Society, our credit card company, which has blocked my card because of a cock-up on their part. They're a bunch of amateurs playing at banking.
Some of these shots were taken with a new Nikon D40 DSLR. I was seduced by Nikon's £60 cashback offer, not realising they had no intention of actually paying out. So it cost £60 more than I had expected, and Nikon will get no more trade from me. I should have stuck with Canon.
